Getting Started
How do I add students?
Go to Students in the navigation menu. Click Add Student and enter their name, birth year, and grade level. You can also set an individual PIN so they can sign in directly.
How do I set up our weekly schedule?
Click Schedule in the navigation. You can assign subjects to specific days of the week, set lesson goals, and customize the daily plan for each student. The schedule shows up on each student's dashboard so they know what to work on.
How do I start a lesson?
From a student's dashboard, pick a subject and click on any available lesson (shown as unlocked on the quest map). The lesson will guide your student through reading, practice exercises, and quizzes step by step.
What is the daily plan?
The daily plan is a personalized view on each student's dashboard showing what lessons and reviews are recommended for today. It's based on your weekly schedule, spaced recall intervals, and unfinished work.
For Students
How do lessons work?
Each lesson follows a clear flow: Read a teaching passage, then Practice with guided exercises, and finish with a Quiz to check understanding. Some lessons also include narration (telling back what you read), copywork, or discussion prompts. You need 80% on exercises to move forward.
How do I use the journal?
The journal is your personal space to write reflections, notes, and thoughts about what you're learning. You can access it from your dashboard. Entries are private and only visible to you and your parent.
How do I earn XP and rewards?
You earn XP by completing lessons, finishing exercises, maintaining streaks, and defeating bosses. XP builds your level and unlocks new avatar items. Daily challenges offer bonus XP, and your house earns points when you achieve milestones.
How do I use the AI tutor?
If you're stuck on a problem, look for the Ask for Help button during exercises. The AI tutor will give you hints and explanations without just giving away the answer. It's like having a patient teacher available anytime.
How do I flag a problem in a lesson?
If something looks wrong in a lesson (wrong answer, confusing question, typo), click the Report Issue button on the lesson page. Your parent will be notified and can review it.
For Parents
How do I manage the weekly schedule?
Go to Schedule in the navigation. You can drag and drop subjects onto different days, set the number of lessons per day, and customize rest days. Changes take effect immediately on your students' dashboards.
How do I set up rewards?
SchoolHouse has built-in rewards: XP, levels, avatar customization, house points, and boss battles. For custom rewards, go to Family Settings and set up milestone rewards (e.g., "When you reach Level 10, we'll go to the park").
How do I view progress and portfolios?
Click Students and select a student. You'll see detailed analytics including subject progress, topic mastery, XP timeline, activity heatmaps, and achievements. The Analytics page (under More) shows cross-student comparisons.
How do faith connections work?
Go to Family Settings and choose your faith tradition. When available, history lessons will show optional faith connection boxes that relate the lesson content to your tradition. These are never required and can be turned off at any time.
How do I change the language?
Language selection is available during onboarding and in Family Settings. You can choose which world language your students will study as part of their curriculum.
What is the field trip finder?
The field trip finder suggests local educational outings that complement what your students are currently learning. Look for field trip suggestions on lesson pages and the dashboard.
Account & Billing
How do I change my password?
If you're logged in, go to Settings > Change PIN to update your family PIN. For email accounts, you can reset your password from the Forgot Password page.
How do I set up two-factor authentication (MFA)?
Go to Settings > Two-Factor Auth in the navigation menu. You'll scan a QR code with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, or 1Password), then enter a verification code to enable it. After that, you'll need the app each time you sign in.
How do I manage my subscription?
Go to Settings > Subscription to view your current plan, upgrade, or manage billing. You can also access Stripe's customer portal to update payment methods or cancel.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings > Family Settings and scroll to the bottom for the account deletion option. This permanently removes all family data, student records, and progress. This action cannot be undone.
Troubleshooting
A lesson won't load
Try refreshing the page first. If the lesson still doesn't load, check your internet connection. If the problem persists, try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser. If nothing works, use the contact form below to report the issue.
I can't log in
Forgot your PIN? A parent can reset it from the admin dashboard. Forgot your password? Use the Forgot Password page. Account locked? After 5 failed attempts, accounts are temporarily locked for 15 minutes. Wait and try again.
Images are not showing
Images may take a moment to load on slower connections. If images consistently don't appear, try clearing your browser cache. If illustrations are missing from lessons, this may be a content issue — please report it through the contact form.
Quiz answers aren't saving
Make sure you have a stable internet connection before submitting answers. If answers aren't saving, try refreshing the page and re-entering your answers. Check that JavaScript is enabled in your browser. If the problem continues, contact us below.
